2x Leading Hand – Surface Treatments
Scope of the role
The Manufacturing Leading Hand is responsible for leading and supervising a team of workers in a manufacturing environment. This role involves coordinating production activities, ensuring that work is completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The Manufacturing Leading Hand is also responsible for maintaining safety standards, managing resources, and ensuring efficient use of machinery and materials to meet production goals.
Main Responsibilities & Activities:
As well as the requirement for the Manufacturing Leading Hand to be ‘hands-on’, operating machinery/manually operating on parts, the responsibilities of this role also include:
Team Supervision and Leadership:
- Supervise and lead a team of production workers, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
- Assign tasks and monitor the performance of team members, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Ensure that the team is motivated, engaged, and adheres to company policies and procedures.
Production Coordination:
- Assist in the planning and coordination of daily production schedules and workloads.
- Ensure production goals, deadlines, and quality standards are met consistently.
- Monitor production processes, ensuring smooth operation and addressing issues as they arise.
Resource Management:
- Oversee the allocation and efficient use of materials, tools, and machinery in the manufacturing process.
- Ensure the production line has the necessary resources and supplies to maintain continuous operation.
- Report on resource usage and manage inventory levels to minimize downtime or shortages.
Quality Control:
- Ensure all products meet the required quality standards and specifications.
- Perform quality checks during the production process and identify areas for improvement.
- Work with quality assurance teams to address defects and implement corrective actions.
Training and Development:
- Provide training and mentoring to new employees and less experienced team members.
- Ensure that team members are properly trained on machinery, processes, and safety protocols.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and encourage the development of skills within the team.
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:
- Address any technical or operational issues that arise on the production floor.
- Troubleshoot machine breakdowns or production delays and take corrective action to minimize downtime.
- Work with maintenance teams to ensure equipment is functioning optimally.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
- Monitor individual and team performance and provide feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of production output, downtime, and any incidents.
- Report on production progress, issues, and achievements to the Production Manager or Supervisor.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and implement lean manufacturing techniques.
- Suggest improvements for equipment, processes, and workflows to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
Essential:
- Experience working in a chemical treating environment
- Experience with chemical treating processes
- Experience in the activities listed above
